Oils by Holly Angelique
Thank you for visiting my web page. I am happy to be able to share my work with you.
I believe that all artwork has stories to tell and emotions to elicit. The artist and the audience work together to co-create those stories and evoke many emotions. My work is inspired by my own experiences, the work of others and the stories that have informed my life. I began taking oil painting lessons when I was twelve years old and was trained as a landscape painter. I grew up in Maine and the spirit of New England still has a great influence on my work.
As an observer of life, I have always been intrigued by the compexities of human and animal natures and by the poignancy of relationships. I hope these reflections on our spiritual selves come through in my portraits. I am also fascinated by our political landscape and believe that art can be a mechanism of social awareness and change. The political aspects of my life, especially around environmental and women's issues are also reflected in some of my work.
I studied briefly at Rhode Island School of Design and learned to expand my artistic repetoire in my short time there. My work has become more contemporary over the years, and I now move freely from from conveying the literal to the abstract. I also work on both small and large canvasses. However, I am still deeply rooted in my early training and I will always have a deep fondness for traditional still lives, landscapes and urban scenes.
